I wish - gonna probably end up with a 1.0 Fiesta/Polo/Micra 
Was looking at a Golf or Focus TDi but it's so much cheaper to get a little car for the first year or two I'm just gonna live with something to get me from A to B. Problem is finding one for under £800 that isn't dodgy as hell ("Yeah mate, we've got that Polo. Yeah, 12 month MOT done by my mate. Yeah, btw, it had an engine swap and it's got no service history at all? Sound good, yeah?").
Gonna end up with a car older than me or that's got near 180k on the clock it seems

I got a ten year old clio 6 months ago, just use it for work, cost me 1200 quid, low mileage, and after hating french cars for years i now find myself about to highly recomend one! nice little motor they are.

Could get a nice little 2000/2001 Punto for that... just make sure the cambelt has been done around 70k...

Golf Mk 2 Driver. Not much in safety however you can't go far wrong with them as long as you look after it. I'm a bit biased as I've has 3 of these but they're cracking cars.
1.6 or 1.8 for the '92 models, they are basically GTI's with out the injection or the insurance costs or the "steal me" image that GTI's have but a solid, reliable car, that isn't a slouch in 3rd!
There's a few out there with less than 100k, only a few owners with FSH then its worth a look. You shouldn't have to pay more than 1000 notes for one.
Edit: like GeeBee says just make sure the Cambelt has been done every 60/70k!
If I can shift my GTi and sort out a mini for Mrs FC I am seriously considering getting another for commuting up and down the motorway.

A 124 spider is one thing, that's a very old car nowadays, a punto truly another. Great starter car, economical, spacious etc...
I see you are taking out your CT customs rage on newbies and Italian motors...

Talking of fiats, my brother had a seicento sporting for a couple of years, not the greatest car ever made but he loved it, worth a look!

No mate, I just like them. I think it all stems from a fiat being the first car I remember my old man having when I was a kid. He also rocked a fine adidas back in the 70s so that may well be where that little habit stems from too.
