I wouldn't pay it.
I've had some properly angry letters from DHL saying solicitors, collection agencies, credit reference agencies would be called.
So far I've ignored it and they've done fuck all.
Starting to wish I never paid any of the earlier ones either.

I wouldn't pay it - a county court would laugh at the case as it's only over a £15 charge

Yeh, I got an angry letter from DHL a month ago saying they would go to solicitors within 7 days, I dashed it in the bin and havent heard a peep since! I figured no county court would waste time over £22 in a case like this...

Just got a letter from a group called Avance demanding money on Fedex's behalf.
So at least that's that problem solved (Can't imagine it's worth their time hiring anyone out to go to court over £6 or whatever they bought the debt for)

I always ask the shipper to state the value on the front as £10 or tick the box gift and state a slightly higher value. Most ebay sellers are happy to do this. I always do the same for people who buy stuff from me also when shipping abroad.
If you buy from within the EU then it doesn't matter, only outside as its as parallel importing.

Basically - FedEx couldn't get the money from me so they sold the debt on for 50p on the pound or something (so for example, Avance buy a £10 debt for £5). If FedEx can't/won't take me to court for £11, what are the chances this other company will for £6 profit?
The cost of hiring someone to send to court to get me to pay (or to hire someone to take my stuff to sell to pay them back) will outweigh the profit they'll make.
Avance will send letters but that's about it. Unless they want to go out of business very quickly. Chances are they'll give up after a while and sell me debt on. Down the line someone will buy the debt for around 1p and even for them it probably won't be worth trying to reclaim the money

The outcome of all this since we all buy kicks from the US, etc would it be wise to contact the seller and persuade them not to use Fed-Ex?
I bought some skates a while back from the US and the seller marked them as a gift and only charged $20 for the shipping. Have seen loads of US sellers on the bay charging up to $50 for shipping one pair of kicks to the UK. How much does it really cost?
Good luck with putting two fingers up to Fed-Ex!

Well, other couriers hold stuff hostage until you pay the customs charge upfront - FedEx actually let you have them before trying to take the money.
Also, whenever I order from stateside shops (the fee above wasn't over soops) they generally only have one postage courier (due to a special deal to get good rates) so it isn't much of an option.

^^Shipping to the UK thru USPS is usually between $26-30, fc.
