I have just finished watching all of the episodes and i am so amazingly moved i could cry. I needed to tell somebody. It made me think a lot about everything...including 'broken Britain'. It makes me sick how the majority of my age group act. I'm 16 and i would definitely be stereotyped as a thug if you saw me on the street...It just shows to me what the youth of today represents. I hate it, I think every single person in school should be educated fully about the war. Bring back national service and corporal punishment. Its pathetic and even with our apparent better standard of living i would much rather be living in that era where people appreciated the true things of life.

Watching all of that shows me what real courage, respect and discipline is.

I don't feel like discussing it with anybody i know so i'd rather tell you complete strangers. Anyway the whole series is amazing and definitely the best series + film if you like i have ever seen. Go and buy it

The start of "Saving Private Ryan" is the same for me, don't think that we'll ever understand the true horror of what a war is like on a scale like that.

The generations born since the since WW2 don't know how lucky we are, we are truly blessed that so many young people gave their lives in the war, both on the battle fields and here at home.

People did have much then and valued life as it could be taken away at anytime, these days people think life is just something to be taken for granted and treat it as such.

I've no doubt that 60 years ago people died in fights outside pubs after an argument but these days people are getting killed for nothing, for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, for trying to protect their own property.

National service may teach future generations the respect that we seem to have lost at the moment.

Funny you should be in here Eff cos I was going to say that it appeared that Phikz had joined a very small group of young men that had a revelation about life.
Use what you've learnt Phikz and get the fuck out of the game, make something of your life from tomorrow onwards.

I tried to take notes during conversations with my grandparents and the stuff they told me was absolutely unbelievable.
During the second world war, women were employed to make, out of wood, tiny seeds to go in "raspberry" jam, in order to raise the spirits of both servicemen and civilians alike.
The whole thing doesn't bear thinking about.
If we went to war, properly, these days, we'd be in deep shit.
But it'll never happen, not a war like that, ever again.

Not sure exactly what "broken britain" is but I completly understand the point your making. People seem to treat anyone bar themselves as simply a means to an end - whether that end is personal happiness, personal wealth, whatever. There is no genuine humanity it seems thesedays. In the instances when people do help others, it's to appease themselves. Unfortunately, it's been that way throughout history. Wars are not for rights, or ideals - they are always fought for personal gain.

As a side note on corporal punishment, I sure as hell do not agree with simply due to my experiences when I was young - beating a defenceless child does not induce respect or discipline, only fear and hatred. There are many reasons people inflict corporal punishment upon children, none are ever justified.

I think you should be able to smack a child, pain certainly got certain points across to me when I was a child that a simple telling off wouldn't have.
And Capital punishment definitely should be brought back.
Pieces of shit like dixie and those other two scumbags do not deserve to live and become a £6,000 a week drain on society.

But im sure a lot more school children would listen if they knew they would face the possibility of getting 10 lashes on their hands for instance. Which leads to discipline hopefully etc

Pure, I also think that Capital punishment should be introduced more than anything else though. I would definitely not commit any serious crime if i knew the consequences would be lethal injection for instance. Not saying i would commit any crime anyway. Tbh i think this country's leaders are a punch of 'wimps' if you like, it is as if they are scared to put their foot down :@ And effel i have considered joining the army too but i thought their must be other ways of doing good, just trying to work out what.

I know, but itas been happening far too much as of late, im thinking another months break or so. Which will devaste a fair bit, but thats life, eh?
As for 'broken britain' i agree that there should be some sort of punishments that will deter people from twattish behaviour, not sure what exactly though.

That was the point of my post - they discipline in the short-term but that doesn't mean they "work"
