couldn't figure out how to lace this style with the lace locks, so I've taken them off.

I've been known to use the "ladder" style from time to time, but i've always found that it works better with fatter laces, like in Kings picture above. That way you don't see all the business behind.
But still, it's all your call man!

you reckon i should start over? i like this style, but i agree it's not as clean as could be with the normal thickness laces.
these laces aren't easy to keep flat. they tend to twist up, which makes things more difficult.

Dude, I am passing no judgement at all on your kicks. Lace as you will!
But from an astethic point of view, this style looks much better with fatties!

I agree with Sneakerphile - if you're going to go straight across with the laces you need proper fat ones, 20mm plus. I think the criss cross style can look pretty tidy with the thin laces if it's done neatly.

Bows are clearly not wrong. Who sees them anyway? Unless you're wearing shorts year round, or some 'man' capris (man-pri's for you, mr p?) then bows are fine.
I suppose you could use some type of fisherman's knot or something. a couple of hitches around a small dowel?
When you're running from the man, the last thing you want is your laces flapping around
