I really dont see the problem with this, making decent quality gear for those who cant afford otherwise is no major crime, is it? Now i'm fortunate enough to be able to fund myself mostly, and i still find these pleasant enough. It's not alll about the status...

True, but if it weren't about the status, y do we buy superstars/ultrastars etc. y do we buy nikes? status.
This is turning into a conundrum on a next level so i'll sum up. @ the price, i'd buy a pair. after all, everyone's gotta start somewhere but they don't hav d same status as nike/adidas. I hope starbury's do though, soon.

They won't.
I just think he should make shoes and get on with his life.
Saying that other brands are bad because they SOMETIMES charge exorbitant prices is stupid.
I bought a pair of ultrastars for like, $30.
A pair of Converse Weapons for $10.
A pair of Forums for like, $15.
It's nice that he wants to help people, but he doesn't have to copy other brands, or say that other brands are stupid.
Even adidas has something sorta like this, the Adi Dassler fund {check the originals homepage, it's at the bottom}

You're missing the point. Stephon here is trying to make decent stuff more affordable for the less fortunate. Hes not saying that you shouldnt go out and buy other brands, hes judst ofering a qulity alternative.

Yeah, I think it's an admirable thing to do as well as highlighting how much we are overcharged by the more established brands.

It's not for the status for me at all. Down here in New Zealand we see shit all in the way of rare soups, I buy them cos I like them, and shit all people know the difference. I don't even personally know anyone else into soups who would know the difference.

I know the point.
He's trying to make affordable stuff.
But come on, he can't think of his own designs?

Clearly not. There again, everyones at it these days. Jus look at shelltoes. skechers/umbro/phat farm appear to be the worst offenders.
It could be a lot worse. He could be one of these son o' a whores who counterfeit nikes/adidas et al and sell 100%real air max 95's for example for £15 @ wembley market! Any londoner worth his/her salt on here knows wot it is.

there are hundreds of companies that provide shoes at this price. Walmart carries tons of shoes in this price range payless, and target as well. Discount stores such as tj-maxx sells name brand original(or in other words not name brand copies) for this price range. If he wants to do something admirable, maybe he should have his shoes made under fair labor standards, by of-age workers not in sweatshops. Show the big companies by example. That would impress me.

I saw a doco segment on Starbury's a while ago, and while they have the same price point as shoes carried by Walmart etc, they have the same features and performance as higher priced, branded shoes; that most of the other cheap shoes don't. They had a podiatrist on there dissecting the shoes and explaining/comparing the good and bad points of various shoes. He's not just trying to make shoes affordable, he's trying to make decent, good performance shoes affordable. BUT Anti-sweatshop shoes would be a big improvement though - I agree with that

I second that. Sweatshops suck. But where is our clothes/kicks made? chances are its in a sweatshop, eevn if they do say they're ethical. these firms are big businesses and will not think twice of using a 5 year old to attach some eyelets onto soups or to sow a tag into a nike tshirt. The truth hurts.
By the way, i buy nike, adidas et al so yes i am being hypocritical an' i definately ain't criticsising no one for buying adidas, nike et al cos i can't. Im jus showing u the other side of the coin.

My neighbors got some Starbury's, they're built well, can't see any glue on 'em (like Nikes), twice stitched, nice looking.
I guess Starbury's is okay.
