Customisation looks like fun, reminds me of my days painting toy soldiers (only way, way cooler) what sort of paints do you use on the shoes...

Get some good quality acrylic paint and mix it with a little artists medium.
Wipe the shoe with a clean cloth and acetone to remove the protective coating.
Paint away and coat with a leather finisher when your done.
