just curious how you ended up in Orlando of all places in the USA? was it Disney World that drew you there not New York City. not San Francisco. not Honolulu or our country's Capitol. heck, not even some tropical island in the Caribbean like Puerto Rico or US or British Virgin Islands or other non-USA island like Bahamas or Jamaica Orlando isn't even on the beach (about 30 miles away).
Seems like a bit of a loaded question but I'll bite.
Reasons why we ended up in Orlando...
1. It was what my (now) wife wanted...
2. I understand that fulfilling criteria 1 is the secret to a happy marriage...
In all seriousness, I was tasked with planning the Honeymoon as a surprise which I revealed in the Rolls Royce from the church to our wedding reception. She had made it quite clear that she really wanted to go to Orlando and do te whole Disney thing as she hasn't done it since she was a little girl. She has visited the states quite a bit through work and has already visited NYC, Chicago and a couple of other places. We also had our only other trip away on our own to Vegas 6 years ago so didn't feel the need to rush back there. That being said, I would have really liked to have done a fly drive trip across the states and driven Route 66 and taken in NYC, Chicago, Washington DC and the West Coast as well. However, having just spent 2 weeks driving a red convertible mustang around Orlando I can confirm my suspicions that the biggest test to our relationship is being in a car together. Extended periods of time together with either of us behind the wheel is a danger! We will almost always end up arguing and I didn't want to put us in that sutuation on our honeymoon. It was also my first time driving in the states, so there was a learning curve there as well which related in some hairy moments (nothing major) that inevitably caused some sparks to fly.
The only thing I did consider as you say, was maybe doing 10 days in Orlando and then dropping over to the carribean but I couldn't seem to keep the costs down in doing so. Decent accommodation in the carribean was very expensive, especially when just trying to book 4 nights or so. Also trying to book flights to accommodate that really jumped the overall costs. I managed to get return flights for 2 with united flying via Newark for just over a grand (GBP) whereas direct flights just to and from Orlando were at least £1100 each. Adding any additional flights caused those costs to spiral and I decided I'd rather have more spending money on the honeymoon that anything else.
The US will always be my destination of choice for a holiday and there's a small chance we could end up living in the states some day as well. So there's plenty of time to see the rest of the country.
