Cracked rubber -
Squeaky - 10-11-13
Yes, Rob the fussy bugger is back. I think I already posted this once but I couldn't find the old thread. Today I cleaned some vins I sold and I noticed some serious cracking on the shell. I saw this before on a pair of 80's before but never on any other pair. Untill now.
I checked out some others supes and a lot of my supes have this 'problem'. Mostly vins, 80's and an occasional SS2. Surprisingly my older supes from around 2000 don't have this at all.
You guys know I have a setup where a lot of my supes are displayed on my wall. My curtains are always closed so the sunlight never hits the supes. But still I noticed some yellowing on the white shells. And now I discovered the cracking so I'm thinking about storing all my supes in boxes again.
I was wondering if any of you ever noticed this kind of cracks on your supes? Is there a way to prevent it?

A lot of stuff you can't do realistically, but silica gel you can.

Okey, only one reaction? Does that mean that none of you have this problem???

Only happened with my older pairs after extensive cleaning, road salt etc... And only with my vins I think. Should come from rubber drying out.

But how can it occur so soon? I have too many supes to wear one pair regularly. Can it be from storing them outside their box?

i don't have any VINS. i don't have any 80's (oh wait, my Cleans). all others are SS2s. all of mine are stored in their boxes. nope, have never seen that on any of my Supes.

Was glad to see someone responded. Turns out to be a fucking scammer. Can more of you confirm this is a common thing or not?

maybe it is temperature.. any big drops and or rises? Did you have them in storage ?

This is how they were stored Benji:
Window is always a bit open, in winter and summer. Curtain is always closed.
Do you have any ideas to preserve the rubber, use some sort of lube/Vaseline/silicone. I googled and some say silicone is the best way, other say silicone fastens detoriation.

Silicone absorbs moisture right? Too much moisture is bad as well. Cling film is used by some, but you can't enjoy them like that

guess you oughta get to wearin' all of your Supes before they crumble and deteriorate to a sad death

have you got halogen spotlights pointing at them mate?

He's got missiles trained on all the major cities in France from that supe bunker . . .

I have a halogen spotlight but its on my ceiling and not very bright.
@Geebee: shut up and go check if any of your supes have the same

Halogen lights will cook stuff. Still it seems unlikely. Do you let your wife in the room? "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how..."
