Never had a problem personally with torrents as the ones who post on there have to be verified and checked that there files are safe..

We've used both open office and google docs with our students at my school and none of them come close to the functionality of the real deal. Depends on what you want out of it really though...

Some of the excel and word functions that I use at work are not available in open office.
