unless you have to have them, i would only deal with sellers that accept paypal. at least with paypal if they do you over you have recourse.

That's what I do now too, it's too difficult, and sometimes too expensive to sort it other ways.

If the guy is new on ebay, you could ask him to open an account. Show him how most auctions use it and tell him he's not gonna do much business without paypal. I did that a few times and it often works.

well we all learn from our own mistakes, never bid on item which got no paypal (foreign auctions) cause tell you the score, been in the bank, you have to fill in the form for FOREIGN DRAFT which is gonna be issued in dollars (my case, you could have it in to anything you want) so spend hour in the bank cueing up and filling form, so up to 100 quid it cost you 8 pounds above 100 it cost 18 pounds (Natwest) rippppoffff. then you have to wait for up to 5 days for that draft to be sended to you from the bank and then you can FWD to people. What a loads of rubbish! so unless its really something TOP NOTCH its not worth hassle and money, just so I KNOW now

I also got caught out by this when i drunkenly bid on some gazelles on German ebay, i won them for 34 euro but didn't notice the seller didn't accept pay pal.
My bank wanted around £20 for a transfer and after a couple of trips there as the seller kept sending me insufficient info to perform one, I put 35 euro in an envelope and posted it off.
Luckily 10 days later the postie delivered me a nice new pair of kicks, and i even got a euro coin change in the bottom of one of them.
To save any more headaches i always check the payment methods before i bid on anything now.
