Customs charges -
Big J - 30-10-07
Evening.
Tried finding details on a couple of other threads, but my consumption of a fine 16 year old single malt has limited my capacity.
For those of you in the UK that have imported from Designer Athletic, have you been hit by a customs charge? And can I ask what it was? I'm gonna be spending about £90, and will buy them anyway, just wanted to know what I was letting myself in for.
I knew this site was gonna be dangerous.
Fuck I do like Lagavulin.
Any help much appreciated.

Haha thanks for the concern, I've had 'em on my watch list for a while and I got paid today so planned to get them anyway.
Besides, I'm Scottish, we can handle our whisky!
What did you get while pished?

I know a few people who play drunken ebay, myself included. I've put random bids in for all kinds of stuff that I didn't want.
Luckily I didn't win the hot pink smart car!

So back to the question.. I've never been stung with import charges from DA.. But I may just have been lucky..

Sounds like you might be buying 3 pairs in which case you will be lucky to escape the tax man's wrath.
They'll add 22% to the total of purchases plus shipping.

As far as I'm aware you will get charged customs. They ship with FedEx, which means you'll receive the goods - and think 'cool, no customs charges' and then 2-3 weeks later they'll post a bill through your door. I dont like that aspect of FedExs service, although they are very quick. The customs charges are made up of VAT, Duties and an admin fee.

Yeah, they are wankers like that.
£11 "admin" fee cos they reckon they've paid the Duty and VAT on your behalf.
Bollocks !

If its Fedex delivering the goods make sure the invoice is right too. The thieving funkers tried to charge me over £20 VAT/Duty/Admin 6 months ago, for a pair of soups that cost me £25!! I told them to go blow it out of their arses and come back to me with the right figure, minus my admin charge for having to compile an e-mail. I've forgotten what figure they came back with, which is funny really cos I've also forgotten to send them the payment and I've not heard funk all since.

Hmmm. Custom charges are always a problem. When I order from abroad I just hope for the best, but most times the item is marked as a gift. Not sure though

I've ordered from pickyourshoes and harputs a few times before and never had any charges. It's all been sent by UPS though and not FedEx. Also I always get them to mark it as 'gift' as that seems to help avoid charges.
