Help, PC or iMac? -

OK, apologies this ain't sneaker related, however this is important (to me anyway!)
Right, I'm always using my PC, mainly online, am not really a gamer, and usually download music & burn them onto CD. Am now considering spending up to £1k on a computer, but want opinions on wether to stay with a PC or go to an iMac? Obviously Mac's are more secure, but don't really know from there.
Opinions please!
FYI, this PC is 6 years old & just about running W98SE.

As you said Fella Mac's are generally regarded as being better and far more secure than Pc's and in most cases much nicer on the eyes but they are more expensive. I got a new Laptop last Nov and couldnt make up me mind but in the end saved a lot of money by sticking with what i knew.  If i had dosh i would get a Mac, not sure how much Mac a grand will get you? The ones i was looking at were £1800!
Its a tricky business mate! Take your time and read loads of reviews and shop around dont just go to fucking Pc World who are shit!

This'll get very one sided purely cos there'll be more PC users.
The gadget show did a test recently and the Mac won hands down.
It comes fitted with Pentagon grade security, you don't have to worry about viruses or any of that other hoohaa cos they are pretty much all written to fuck up Gate's shit.
They're so much more user friendly, I've had a Mac for 6 years now and they've only gone so wrong I had to call technical support once.
If you do decide to get one, go to the Apple store online or use Cancomuk and buy a refurb.
It'll cost you about 30% less and come with the same warranty.
I've always bought refurbs.
Mac's hold there value a lot better.
Enjoy your Mac fella.

So Mr P would you recommend something like this
This baby?
would it last me several years without being obsolete & too slow/inferior after 12 months? I only ask as my PC is 1.2ghz processor, & 128mb of ram, 32mb of graphics etc, and within 4 months of buying it, Xp came out, so it's always been on the back foot!
Cheers

You can get a beast of a pc for like £600 quid

That does look like a very good deal from what i can see.
I think you want a Mac fella , go for it!

Been out !
Absolutely fella, that wasn't a bad deal really.
You wanna wait a little while though as the latest operating system is due very soon.
I generally keep my Macs for 1 year nowadays and sell them with a month or so on the warranty so the buyer can then go to Apple and buy another two years of cover if they want piece of mind.
So you save with the refurb and still hand on a machine that sells for the same as a non-refurb and go and do your upgrade.

I think we're all missing the point really... a mac will just look so much nicer
I've been using macs for last 8 years now, and wouldn't go back, i never had a tech support call or anything, and so easy to use.

Personally I'd say a PC and Macs ain't better for design either thats just industry shite

Just my opinion, not based on the industry at all.

Side by side a slower chipped Mac wil process an image at the same speed as a faster PC.
Something to do with the architecture.

Exactly.

Yeah but the slower mac will probably still cost more than the faster pc
personally I can't abide macs at all, i find them impossible to use for design, just too much fucking about, wasting time I could be spending on more important stuff.
