How to keep your Kicks fresh -
claas - 19-11-05
We had something about this in another thread, but I think it´s worth its own.
1. Don´t wear your shoes for longer than one day.
2. When you come home, give them a quick clean with a damp cloth, let them dry for a little while and put them back in the box.
3. Leave them there for at least two days.
4. Protect your shoes from direct sunlight when you´re not wearing them. Colours may fade, rubber may yellow.
5. DO NOT put them in the washing machine!
6. If you can afford it, get two pairs of some nice Kicks. One to batter in everyday use, one for the special moments.
7. If they got really wet, do not force drying (hair dryer, radiator etc.). This will ruin the leather. Instead, put some crumpled newsprint in the shoes to soak up the water. Remove the paper when it got wet. Then let the shoes dry in a warm (not hot) and airy place. Remove the shoelaces.
8. Wash the shoelaces in the washing machine from time to time, if necessary.
9. A wet sponge as used for the dishes and some dishwashing agent do a great job on dirty rubber/plastic parts. Immediately wipe the shoe dry afterwards.

Never wear your good shoes when you are out disco dancing!
I wore a newish pair of Air Max 95s out one night and got disco dirt on them. Thats stuff doesn't come off easily and with them being suede they were more or less fcuked! I loved them that much I had to go and buy a fresh pair and I still havent even taken the tags off them and that was nearly a year ago.
More money than sense sometimes.

Watch out when you use washing up liquid on the soles. I over did it once on a pair of G Vilas (It was 80's). We had a little bit of rain, and my shoes started frothing before my eyes!

Here's a little tip: Use toothpaste to clean oil or grease from suede, I don't know why it works but it does.
Minty fresh.

Yeah I know the feeling.
I had a house party a while back and wore my new yorks for the first time. I was really drunk but had the foresight to swap them for a not quite so cool pair of ss when I started making berry cocktails for everyone!

What about as far as keepin them in glass cabinet? Im starting up a collection (that'll never touch the soles of my feet), and wanna keep em fresh n clean. Can you get some sorta sneaker protector? And, what the deal with having them under lights? Is that a sure way to make em fade? If theres any other collecters out there, lemmie know what ya think. This sites been pretty helpful so far, keep up the good work..Peace

Some lights especially sunlight can fade the colour.
Why you dont intend to wear any of them?
Thats the main joy of having them, well it is for me anyway.
