It already exists !
Yeah, Streak mentioned it somewhere, which is what prompted my post. Obviously I don't know what your current criteria for membership is, at a guess I'd say Specialists and Mods? But I'm talkin about inviting the old heads back and opening it up to more people, maybe create more ranks for people to work through over time to gain access (that's the gamer in me talkin!) Make it less of a secret and perhaps membership of the "inner circle" will become something to aspire to for regular members and promote better behaviour from them?

I'm probably being dense but I don't understand why you'd have to replicate threads, if something's worth saying out here to the masses, why would you want to type it again in the private section? Can you not just leave that area as it is, for topics and conversations you'd rather lurkers/noobs/twats not be privy to?

ps If we do get more ranks, can we have a "Superstar Sharpshooter" please? Laughing

Laughing

What I meant was that some of these guys would maybe pass comment on some upcoming Supes or the MiAdidas thing or this or that etc etc...
But wouldn't want to fight through the comments to bother making any kind of comment.
I think we'll lock down the majority of the forum, allow them to post an introduction and reply to it, read the chat and fake threads and meanwhile, on the evidence and replies, make a decision amongst ourselves as to whether they're a pain in the arse or not.
Again, majority rules whether they stay, go, or remain in introduction purgatory !

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - shelltoes - 06-04-09

Hmmmmmm....
G, your right. I seriously think there are quite a few idiots on here and I am put off from posting for that exact reason.
That said, you need people to post to keep the forum breathing.
I've been on the forum since virtually day one, as you know, but whats my post count? 300 odd? It would be buried if everyone were like me.
But of course I dont have to moderate and Im sure if I did I would do it in the exact same way as you have been.
Whats my point? Do what you feel is right and I got your back.

Sorry.
Who are you again ?

Always good to see ya fella.
Picked up anything nice lately ?
Toured with any psychos ?

Wink

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - woody - 07-04-09

You all know my views on this one already but for the record I'm all for re-structuring the whole place to weed out the idiots and cut down on the totally pointless and stupid threads of which there are more than a few

When original members are disappearing and spending all thier time just browsing the specialist area we are in a bad way. Lock it down I say.

Streak, hiding the post count is a stroke of pure genius mate

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - mr.pure - 07-04-09

Hiding it ?
Not sure that'll help, they'll just post like mad bastards until they get access to the sale thread.
For all his obvious faults, I wish more tosspots were like Conz in that they admit they're only here to sell.
It makes my job a hell of a lot easier and keeps them in here for less time.

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - streak - 07-04-09

our job...

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - mr.pure - 07-04-09

Fuckin' hell, you've really got a bee in your bonnet haven't you ?
If I'd said "it makes our job a hell of a lot easier" it would've looked like I was talking about the whole forum !
Okay, I should've worded it as follows......
"It makes the job of any moderators who happen to be about at the given time of any posting infractions or generally undesirable behaviour a hell of a lot easier".
Happy now ?

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - AdiMac - 07-04-09

I'm happy with what ever you all decide, there is alot of shit on here now but it is lack of cash that has been keeping me away recently!!!

I was a new member once and I would never have picked up the 20 or so pairs I have in the last 2 years if it was for this place. For people like BL maybe we should lock down to save them from themselves and a huge overdraft.

Just don't leave me out, bonus is coming soon and so will some new Supes...

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - woody - 07-04-09

I reckon some people post bullshit to get their post count up so hiding the count might help? Who knows

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - JonnyNYC90 - 07-04-09

As a newbie, I can't have as much of a pull with my words as the experienced people on here.
However, I must say that all the kids coming on here looking to find a cool new shoe only to drool over it, forget the forum and never buy the shoe because their mommies won't buy it is annoying.
I think the forum should be locked.
Everyone that genuinely loves Supes is here. Others can prove themselves worthy.
That's my humble newbie position.

Jonny

RE: Is it time to lock the forum ? - manus - 17-04-09

I haven't been on here much recently and don't know exactly what has been going on, but most of the problems have been caused by either people wanting one piece of info that a quick google search would probably answer or are wanting to sell stuff. So, I've had a couple of ideas.

1) Could the joining application process start with a "standard answer" to weed out the people who are only joining to ask one question. The standard answer could include the fake spotting information etc. And maybe the email that you get to complete the registration should take a couple of days to get to the prospective member. It might put some people off.

2) How about the new terms and conditions for new members forbids them to sell and the buy/sell forum is "removed" from SuperstarDB. It doesn't actually have to be removed from the forum, the forum could be open to loads of members, just operating in secret.

I'm not even sure that this post makes sense - it's been a long week.
