You make a very good point, Farm. It's like what I learned from Beavis and Butthead: To have stuff that's cool you gotta have stuff that sucks

I hear what King is saying on this one too.
Taking myself for example, I have never really been an internet forum type of person but once i happened upon you guys i knew i had to join. I also knew that there was a proper etiquette to follow if i was to be accepted, and (hopefully) i respected that.
What i'm trying to say is, i've been into supes for decades and consider myself sound in my interest, but i've only been a member here for 5 months. If it happened to be 5 months later before i found you guys and the initiation was real tough, i might have decided to stay the type of geezer that dosen't bother with forums.
So maybe it's not the joining that needs to be tougher but what threads you can access as a new member. Maybe we need a test!!! All new members have to be able to tell us who Adolf Dassler is...
If they can't we know a man who can.
Also how about not saying that a number of posts are needed to unlock certain threads. This might stop spammers from trying to reach that magic number??????

King kinda said what I meant to say - I don't want to lose good members because of idiots. That said, seems it's happening anyway except we're losing longtime good members, not new ones.

We did talk about removing the view post count thing..

That's the point Reid.
Don't wanna stop anyone genuine from coming along but at the same time we're either losing or lost some fuckin' quality members as a direct result of all the idiots.
Proper heads like Paytwo, Shelltoes, Becks, Bobby Dassler and a few others that just don't or rarely bother to post anymore.
My allegiance, and frankly, preference is always gonna be with people who've been into Superstars for more than 5 years than someone I don't even know yet.
No offence to any of ya but I'd like to hear their input every now and then but it don't happen cos they can't be arsed to swim through the tide of shit to get to a decent post.
This isn't directed at any of the regulars in here cos you're all fuckin' solid as far as I'm concerned and we mostly get on pretty good and even though Pokey's a bit of a stroker, he's a nice stroker !

I am a new member myself but I have been reading around the place for a few months now and I can definatley see where you are coming from with this, if people like Adolf keep coming here then whilst it can be fun ripping them to shreads it can get a bit tedious and can ruin the forum.
I'm pretty new in terms of collecting Supes, I only have 4 pairs right now but I will be expanding my collection. I've been wearing Supes for years though and I've always had an interest in them, just never had money to buy them regularly. This place is a great place for me to see other peoples collections and learn about Supes.
I think a sort of application form should be filled in for new members and then the po-leece can decide if they are SSDB worthy.

Sometimes you don't have to have a particularly large collection to be solid on supes.. There's a few older members on here who have less than 10 pairs but are truly knowledgable about the shell.. Whereas there are other members who just buy for the sake of buying but have little or no interest in the history or development of the superstar..
Not sure what my point was TBH..

If that's the reason decent old skool members dont post anymore then it's a real shame. Perhaps instead of focusing on making the forum harder to access for new members and potentially missing out on some quality, could you give older/more respected members access to the private area of the forum, like a VIP lounge type of set up? Maybe people who used to contribute but who may not like the current direction the forum has taken can keep in touch/share the knowledge without having to wade through the general stuff from a bunch of people they don't know? You lot could have some secret ballot shit amongst you all to see who gets the "certified" members status!
That way, with some tight moderating and regular deleting of the crap, us newer members can carry on makin fools of ourselves and huddling in corners until such time we're deemed fit for entry to the "real" SSDB or consigned to the shitlist with Adolf, Conz and Bow Down or whatever his fuckin name was.
Or something like that. Sounded good in my head

Would have to be invite only to a private thing.
Been on a few forums where it's post count, it gets silly.
Good idea though.
I would lock it, Get the intro thread public and go from there.
Have a trial run once something is decided?
Week or so...

You know that thing you're talking about Shellshock ?
It already exists !
On here.
Right now.
Only trouble is, we'd have to make it a replica of the main forum to do what you described.
At the moment, it gets used, but the majority of conversations on a given subject are done out here.
Typing the same shit twice would be a huge pain in the jeffries.
