Like Ken said, it's the "foamy" soles you've got to be careful with. Superstars should be fine either way apart for some stripe/heal/tongue materials that may crack over time. I have 4 pairs of Pro Mods from 93/94 and the only pair that had no signs of deterioration was the one that had been worn over the years. If it's a matter of the shoe getting to breathe, moisture, dryness or flexing the sole/upper I don't really know (probably the last one or a combination). I have other DS pairs too from the same year and line with different signs of deterioration. One has clearly been exposed to excessive smoking
Almost every used pair I've got from the UK smell of cigarette smoke though

Are these PU or EVA? Looks like EVA.
RE: Things that make your blood boil -
vox - 23-03-13
I'd say PU like in Trimm-Trabs, but I'm no expert
Isn't EVA what they use in classic runners?
RE: Things that make your blood boil -
Tifoso - 23-03-13
Yeah, they've been using it in runners, of all kinds, for many years. There are different types and densities of EVA, tho. If your's are the same stuff as Trimm-Trabs or Forest Hills then it's polyurethane.

Always sad too see that happen Vox. From what i've heard adidas went PU crazy 70/80s especially with the tennis range. These belong to a friend never been worn and kept boxed:

That's nuts, E!
BTW, never put on brand new PU shoes and go on carpeted steps, without scuffing them up first.

Yeah, I've heard about the old PU soles but thought they sorted that in later models.
