We're meant to get some by the end of the week

We had first snow in Finland a few weeks back melting away the same day. Arrived actually a bit later than it has over the past few years but then again I don't mind snow at all as long as the temperature stays within limits of reason. When it gets stuck on -20 degrees or more for weeks and weeks like it did last winter, then it starts getting on my nerves. Still I prefer lots of snow and colder temps over constant rain and slush any day.

I like the snow. I dunno why but somehow I like the entire country going crazy because a bit of snowfall. Slippery roads, traintracks, etc. I must be crazy

It makes me laugh when folk go nuts over a dusting of snow, it's fucking winter, that's what's supposed to happen! I had a stand up rant at some news feature about a village in Northern England, it was -2 and a bit slippy. Well fuck me, but where I was it was -8 and there'd been 2 feet of snow the day before! Bring it on.

Haha, on all news progs after a "snowstorm" they always show the same two shots:
1. Kids sledging down a hill/playing in snow
2. Traffic jam/cars moving slowly as it snows.
We won't have many slow news days now as it will be filled with news of the Royal Wedding next year.
fc wants a day off for it. To avoid it completely.

We still get mocked country wide because our Mayor asked for the army to be called in a number of years ago after a snow storm.
To be fair, it was a lot of snow, but the army?

I'm a bit nervous about this Royal Wedding, bears too many similarities to last time:New conservative government comes into power, crazy tax hoikes and spending cuts all-round, Charles marries Diana and blam! it all kicks off with Argentina. I'm steering well clear of The Falkland Isles for a bit

Apparently it was icey in Leeds today, so the NHS tipped its whole grit ration for the winter outside the door of the health centre I base at.
SS - I am going to London with mummy sab too watch the wedding celebrations.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving. It's the number #1 Christmas shopping day of the season. Stores will put on spectacular sales with products at outrageously low prices, but there's only a limited supply of the items. The stores tend to open their doors at 5am or 4am or even 3am. Naturally, customers wanting to get on these outrageously low prices will wake up at 2am or even camp out in front of the store on Thanksgiving Day to be the first line or at least near the front of the line. All of the stores put out ads in the newspaper and they come out on Thanksgiving so people can see what's going to be on sale the next day. I myself am guilty of getting up at 2am to get in line in the sub freezing temps to get a US$100 42" HD flatscreen TV or US$100 160GB Playstation 3 or even $20 PS3 games that are regularly $60. It's crazy madness. We also have Cyber Monday which is on the Monday following Black Friday where most retailers put on incredible sales only on their online outlets. We here in the US are hoping for good sales this weekend to help boost our national and local economies.

Meh, your "Black Friday" $100 dollar 42" plasma pales into insignificance when compared to our "Orange Wednesdays" which is when you can get two Cinema tickets for the price of one. And that badboy happens every week, that's 52 times a year!

Belee dat !
Over a year the compulsive cinema goer and his Julie can save enough to buy half a decent telly.
We do get a certain amount of Black Friday shittery over here but frankly the whole thing stinks of american flavoured capitalism that I'd rather our country didn't copy.

We don't have Black Fridays, Orange Wednesdays, Cyber Mondays or Thanksgiving for that matter.. but just a bunch of other days when shops have various "special offers". Even Halloween is somewhat recent a celebration here, don't recall any costume parties during the Halloween era when I was a wee one.

I'd say the nearest we have over here to BF is New Year Sale (but has a habit of going on until February!), when you see people camped out at Harrods on 1st Jan waiting to get a hideous velour Sofa that was £10,000 and is now £500.
