I still have not bought a phone yet - i've always been handed down them =p
Can't complain though, they're excellent phones.
About 5 years ago my brother gave me a 7210 then i got some random phone and another. Then i ended up with an N95 which my niece wanted so i took my sister's 8800.
My sister and brother-in-law go through quite a number of phones...
Btw, what's the point in changing phones every few months? lol, isn't that a bit much of a hassle.

My current one is only the 2nd phone i've ever bought in my life and that set me down a massive 35 euros. Been using it for a few years now.
Before that my uncle used to give me some promo models every now and then from the Nokia R&D department he's working in. Some of them had a few minor glitches which didn't really bother me, considering their freebie status. But i don't understand those people at all, who willingly buy and change their phones once a month or even more often. What's the reason for always having the latest phone model besides "being in with the trends" or making it match your new set of clothes? I don't feel like changing my phone unless it breaks completely or otherwise becomes obsolete.

I dont change em every month, that does seem a bit excessive... every year /18 months, mainly because i like the new features, my current phone has 8mp camera and 16gb internal memory, which means i dont have to buy and carry around a camera or an mp3 player, its also got satnav/google maps, comes in real handy and also use the net on it a fair bit, if you just use a mobile to make phone calls then yeah, stick to a bog standard 3310 and dont bother upgrading

People keep talking about marking things up as a gift but it makes no difference whatsoever to the customs officers.
The marked up value, including postage is the only thing they give a shit about.
If it's over £18 in total you could get charged VAT and duty.
Simple as that.

pukka - 8mp camera on a UK phone?
Which one is that?
Not into this phone lark at all, but my 4yr old sagem my400 is really, really shit. It was even crap at the time I bought it for £30, so imagine it now!

I just upgrade when I'm due one from O2. Couple of times I'll sell them on ebay if I'm happy with the phone I've currently got. Only phone I've ever paid for was my iphone, just to get a cheaper line rental. Cost me 87 quid, which is the exact same I got from Mazuma for my N95. Which was nice.
Couldn't be arsed changing more than every year or so.

Battosai, there's a few out in UK with 8mp camera. There's a Sony Ericsson one(cant remember model number), Nokia N86, Samsung Tocco and the Samsung Pixon claims a 12mp camera.
Just checked, it's the Sony Ericsson W995, and they have a 12mp dropping this week - Sony Ericsson Satio.

your phone camera can have all the megapixels in the world, doesnt mean its going to be any good, megapixel just means it takes bigger photos... doesnt mean the picture quality is going to be any better, that is determined by the processing and the lens used, and the lenses on camera phones are shithouse
I'd still rather carry around a point and shoot camera over a phone anyday of the week

batt, its a samsung i8510, was the one before the tocco came out sep 08... that new sony erricson looks good, samsung also bringing out a 12 megapixel....
steve-o, thats tru, and if i wanted to take "propa" pictures then i would get a digital SLR, but as i just take ya standard kinda pic the camera on my phone is more than good enough, and just as good if not better than alot of the point and shoot cameras out there, with the bonus of comming free with the phone. i'd never carry a standard point and shoot around on the off chance that i would see something worth taking a pic of, but with the phone its always on you.

Cheers for updating my feeble knowledge of phones, fellas.
Gotta agree with Pukka; I'd not really pay 150-200 notes for a digital camera as a standalone unit unless I was seriously into taking pictures, but to have a very good (for a phone) camera on you just by-the-by, as part of you phone, would be very handy.
Trust me, I'm on 1.3MP of brass and my 'images' look like something out of a Spectrum 48k game.

prime example of the benifits of the camera phone.... I was out on my bike sunday, rode past this car that was for sale, my mates really into his beetles, thought he may be interested in this, was able to take a pic there and then... didnt change any of the many settings ( lighting, against light, etc etc), just took the phone out of my pocket and took the pic.. ya gotta admit you dont really need a better quality lens than that for your standard "holiday snaps", i also find it handy at airports.... i take a picture of where the car is parked...lol

lol sorry guys... taking my photos is my day job, so I basically disregard camera phones all together
but I can see from a general consumer that they're handy
