I would say its down to a few things:

* the rarity of the item

* does it have strong residuals? Always in demand?

* How good your ebay listing is - photos, etc

I remember buying an N64 for my newphews about 6 years ago and got one with the embroidered case and when I came to sell it for them around three years later everyone went nuts because it came with the rare carry case.

Made around 30 quid profit, so you can get lucky!

I bought an xbox360 elite for £155 with halo3 and an extra controller.

Sold it roughly 2/3 months later for £165 with call of duty5 and another game i bought (lost the name)

So in my experience you will lose a little if you buy more games etc, but not too much
