Yup youre right there P.
Like its been said before in economics, when America sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold...
When it all 1st happend last year, I was hopeful that we wouldnt feel the pinch here, sadly that wasnt to be.
And it didnt help with my potential transfer last year being that the company I worked for was a sub prime mortgage company heavily linked with a major US automotive company and funded by lots of US investment companies...

I may be slightly biased but what about Newcastle.
Always a good night out
Friendly locals (if you can understand us)
Reasonable prices
Plenty of culture
Nice surrounding area
Weathers pretty poor tho.

"What you need to understand and accept... is that ALL politicians are are crooks and corrupt wind up artists... ALL, NO MATTER WHAT COUNTRY and NO MATTER WHAT LEVEL."
Well said that man (or women!) what you also need to understand that it isn't Bush or Brown who make these policies, many times their just the stoodge or front guy, it's the people behind the leaders who cause the fook ups! Still could be worse, you could live in China or Zimbabwe!

ps - I love the suggestion of the US guy moving to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne - I can just imagine him down the Bigg Market! He'll think he's become like Alice and stepped into Wonderland! Ah'll heva Broon Ale! Up The Toon!!!

Good thread man! I've only been to the UK once for a week, but I must admit that London was a blast. Like others have stated though, it is DAMN EXPENSIVE, especially because of the US dollar to GB Pound. But of course you would be earning in pounds so maybe it would be different for you. I would definitely say consider living outside the main city of London, if London is where you decide to go. Because the real estate market there is insane, and that's coming from someone who lives in Orange County, California!
And like King of the Farm said, I too am not happy with the political issues in America. And I am also sad to see that Obama has taken a hit in the polls, even though I'm not a huge Obama fan. I would just take him over McCain. But after having been privileged enough to travel most of Europe, parts of Asia, and to have been all over the states. There is no place like the US for me. From West cost to East coast there are a lot of really cool cities to live in that all have their unique charm and differences. From what I've seen your average American also lives a pretty good life. Food, electronics, imports like cars, etc. are way cheaper in this country, and the dollars' buying power in America also takes you a long way. So even though the political future of this country looks bleek, I don't think it will be significantly affecting the way I live my life on a day to day basis. And based on that I would consider a move to a cool city like NYC or Chicago if you still want to enjoy the benefits of the US while still getting the lifestyle of being in a real metropolitan city.
Whichever way you go though good luck. The UK will be a nice change, as will a city like NYC or Chicago.

I think you would have to be mad to come here! This country has been destroyed by maniac politicians over the years , it costs a fortune for everything and the constant rules and regulations that we are bombarded with its not far short of a police state.
We do make good beer though!
I agree with Reid and would opt for Brighton over London anyday of the week if you had to come here to live/work, far cooler and you have the sea to splash around in when we have our summer, remember it this year what a day that was!
