At the moment we are awaiting a decision on the planning application that we have put in - we are thinking of a private members club - charge people say £50 a year for membership - and have an old fashioned pub - on the farm - and because it is "private" people can smoke as much as they like - and the prices for beer would be pretty keen too, not £3.50 a pint!!!!
(and also - smoke WHAT they like!!!)

I am a civil servant and we have to go off the premises to smoke and UNTIL recently we all used to go into a bus shelter. Now the local arsehole police have put a sign up coz it has 3 sides and called it 'an enclosed public place' we cannot do it any longer!
my taxes as a smoker paid for the law to go thru parliament. my taxes as a smoker pay for it to be upheld by the varying councils and my taxes pay for it to be upheld in every court in the land.
FUCKING BOLLOCKS!
yet, the clammy, sweaty talentless shitscape that is pete doherty has seventy million convictions for smack, crack etc and gets NOWT done to him in court. whats the story?
My grandfather fought a war against Nazis yet we have them telling me, an adult non drinker that i cannot smoke a substance that is LEGAL to buy!

yeah but the shitty thing is - is that if you are a smoker aged over 65 and have a lung problem - THEY WILL NOT TREAT YOU ON THE NHS!!!!!!!!!
It was the smokers 65 years ago that built the NHS!!!!!!!

The smoking ban just went into effect here in Louisville on the first. Everybody was hanging outside the bars. We went through this in Minnesota a few years ago. People get real pissed about it when it gets cold outside.

the smoking ban will be hard to please evryone. On the one hand, I, myself as a smoker welcome it because i can try and give it up after the best part of 8 years. on the other hand, establishments should be able to choose so that the oldman/hardman/'secretsquirrel*pubs can cont to allow smoking, an' all the trendy/gay/fucknows wot etc places can have no smoking.
The litter law is fuckn stupid though. taxes which smokers, but usually myself don't pay go towards street sweepers amogst others.
*secretsquirrel pubs is a term where people who aren't meant to be there can indulge in booze/fags/'other' without the other half/parents et al knowing. There used to b such a pub near my old place in somers town.

The crunch will come when some c**t decides to spike an innocent lass while she is outside having a smoke and uses the chance to strike.
Or, the less cool folks in our society passing a pub and using the crowd outside to do what they do best. act like fucking dicks! basically it sucks and the Govt should be ashamed of themselves. Public school arse!

we've had a pubs smoking ban in New Zealand for a couple of years now, and as a non smoker i quite like not stinking like cancer when i get home.
i don't mean to offend anyone, but shit like this pisses me off...
i hate it when smokers just drop their cigarette butts anywhere and everwhere - first they pollute the air, and then the streets, bastards. we should have hefty fines for that shit too

It's a difficult one, I welcome it on the one hand because as a non-smoker, why should I have to inhale your smoke in the pub and put myself at risk of illlness just cos you want a cig? You can still go an have one outside the pub. On the other hand I think people should be given the right to choose what they do generally.
But then saying that, non-smokers should have the right to choose not to inhale smoke right? And seeing as it's the smokers causing the smoke it's them that need to take it outside.
You could probably argue both sides but I think it always comes down to the fact that the smoke is harming others and that's the basis for the law and it's been banned in most public places for ages anyway, you'd never dream of smoking in a shop or on a train or whatever, just pubs and restaurents really that are being affected. For years smokers have had thier own way and the non-smokers have had to put up with it so now it's payback time

the big selling point from the government over here was the health of the workers in the bars - people who have to do a whole shift in a smokey environment
