It's so clear and sharp with dvd's maybe i need to try blu-rays
Yeah, dvd format doesn't cut it anymore. Bigger screen and sharper image make them look like crap. I have a Philips 55" and I only watch in 720p or 1080p. If you don't want to go to the other bay
blue-ray is your best bet...

What he said. LG 55" and only watching 720p or 1080p. TV series used to come out only in SD but fortunately that's been changed as well.

SD on an HD set is unwatchable.

Yeah. So how do you think I feel when AMC is only available in SD in Canada? Watching Mad Men or The Killing in SD is unthinkable.

...Breaking Bad, Walking Dead. The list goes on.
WTF no HD? It's not like it's a startup channel or something.

I know. Try telling that to my cable provider. I've been buying the season on iTunes instead. Except for the finale tonight.

Been sick the past few days so thought id go through the lord of the rings trilogy. Unknowingly having downloaded the extended versions, I'm still only half way through the second which totals a whopping 3h 55min lol I'm scared of how extended the next one may be, it felt bloody long enough at the cinema !

Agreed Pokey. It looks like your staring at a high definition Fish tank. It hurts my eyes after about 2 min.
We had a discussion about this at my Cousin's house, and one of his friends mentioned something about the "Hz" Setting causing this weird panning camera effect.
Check if you can drop that Hz setting on your TV. That may do it.
But Yeah..TOTALLY agree with you. We watched 'The Godfather' on that thing with a bunch of my cousins Italian friends from Brooklyn..who were amped up to see it.. (Wannabe Jersey Shore douches...) lol
Anyway, I walked in where Sonny was @ the toolbooth and had to walk right out of the room. It looked TOO fake.
Vintage film getting all jazzed up = SACRILEGE!!

so are we saying that these new Smart tvs (which I am considering buying) are so good, they make films look like just that, a film, rather than real life?
I first thought that when I watch Indiana Jones 4 on blu ray, the opening sequence in the warehouse clearly looked like a film set.
