Superstitious much ? -

All this talk of not putting new shoes on a table, hat's on beds and Magpies got me thinking.
I reckon most superstitions come from a point of view of common sense.
Shoes get shit on him and you eat off a table so that ain't such a clever idea but the story seems to be mostly about new ones which might hark back to the days when Mercury was used in the production process and could end up in your food if placed on the table.
Hat's used to be sturdy, stiff affairs so if you put it on the bed and forgot about it, you might end up squashing it, rendering it useless.
Don't walk under ladders cos you might get brained by something hitting you on the head.
Cracks in paving could have a hole under them so you might end up turning your ankle over.
Magpies though, I've got no idea.
It's pretty much the only true superstition I entertain these days.
Unless you count my OCD, but we're not talking about that !

The magpie thing is because they usually mate for life and if you see 1 on their own, it may mean they've lost their partner.. (bad luck).. anyway.. The things I do include:
Throwing salt over my shoulder if I spill any.
Never walk under a ladder.
But mostly the things I do are just OCD as P said!

I've got a hang up about the number 101, it used to pop up everywhere!!
My mate got knocked off his skateboard by a car with the reg R101 ***, it used to do my head in!!!

What's the deal with salt anyway? You spill some and you make up for that by throwing even more over your shoulder?
Is it left or right shoulder by the way - that matters too, right?

Often people will throw salt over their shoulder after they spill it, in order to blind the devil, who sits at your left shoulder. (Thanks Wikipedia)

Ahh, so I'm guessing it has to be left shoulder (remember that, Streak) otherwise you'll blind the angel that sits on your right shoulder...
I hope I'll never get too superstitious about anything *knocks on wood*

Pick it up with the left hand and throw it over your right shoulder.
Don't do it personally but there you go.
You're gonna hate this Andy.
In graffiti, it used to be quite normal to have a name and a number.
My name was Pure but 100 seemed a bit cliched and I thought "What's better than 100% ?"
Yep, you guessed it.

Agggghhhhh run away, run away (chucks a load of salt at the computer!!!)

Too much time on yer hands Steve.
Saying that, I'm sooperstitious with the best of em (see what I did there?)
always try and get room numbers in 7 or 14 which is linked to my birthday, always pick them in the lottery, never bloody come out though. Don't like the number 13, etc.
I think the rest is down to OCD though.
Final thought: I believe in Luck however I'll tell myself that somethings are down to Fate. Can you have both?

I like the number 13 its just lucky in general for my famly.
But my nanna lived by superstitions we joke she was unable to live cos of em. So my fave of hers was. Never sew clothes whilst wearing them like a button on a shirt etc. The reason being u sew your self sorrow if u sew clothes whilst wearing them.
